Welcome Back 1st Graders!
During the month of March, the first graders will be learning and reading about Dr. Seuss, celebrating the Library's Birthday, and start learning about the Caldecott Medal (we will continue this through April).
In first grade we have been working on fiction and non-fiction, environmental print, and story elements. It is fun to hear the students using the correct terms (character, setting, plot, main idea, etc.) when reading books.
First graders can check out two books at a time. First graders will be able to check out books from our Picture Book (fiction) and Non-Fiction sections. During the month of October we will be doing a lesson on finding "Just Right" books. At this time, students will be able to go to the Fiction section to see if they can find a book that is appropriate for them, around their level. There are plenty of chapter books and advanced level picture books in the Picture Book section. So, your child will have quite the variety.
